I have the crankcase apart and want to remove all of the head bolts. I have successfully removed all but the exhaust 1 and 2 bolts (Bottom right 2 bolts in pic). I have put penetrant and still nothing. My fear is that they will either strip or break completely. Help!

I used 2 M10 x 1.25 nuts and put them on top of bolt and then tightened them together and used bottom nut to remove bolt. Is there another way I'm missing? Any thoughts or tips and tricks?

What are you using to soak them? PB Blaster might work or a small amount of acetone and automatic transmission fluid. Apply it and leave it overnight.

    Don't use WD40 it's not suitable.

Try loosening with impact - one way is to strike the top of the stud with a centre punch. If that doesn't work I would try heating. Oxy gas is good but be careful not to stress or overheat the alloy. A heat gun should also get hot enough to make a difference. If all else fails, clamp vice grips around the stud & get a helper to strike the top of the stud while you apply force.

I had to use MAP gas on the cylinder to crankcase stud on my 900f.

How would an impact gun work? I had 2 nuts tightened together on top of stud. I cant use an impact on lower nut. Please explain how.

I will try Vice Grips as a last resort, closest to crankcase.

In order to use an impact gun the nut would need to be welded to the stud

The idea of the impact is the "shock" factor, pull the trigger in short bursts. Make sure your socket engages the lower nut.

If you’re talking about the exhaust studs, leave them alone, there is no reason to remove them.
If you snap one you’re in for a treat.

I reread your post, when you said head bolts I thought you were working on the head, should have looked at the pic, why are you removing these?

I wanted to get the gasket area nice and clean, plus just clean everything up. I planned on also getting powdercoated too. It would just be easier to do. Not the exhaust studs, but the head bolts that are screwed into the upper crankcase.

I thought you were talking about the exhaust studs too. The studs that hold the cylinders and head l didn't remove.

50/50 ATF and Acetone. Better than Kroil, and cheaper too. But you do lose the convenience of a can that's ready to go at all hours.
I've freed bolts that have been corroded in place for 50+ years and resisted all other efforts.
