I am trying to repair my rear brake caliper on my 1997 yamaha xj 600. DOes it have just 1 piston on 1 side or 2 pistons 1 on each side? I got 1 piston out but the 1 that faces the rim is stuck or is this just 1 piston and the other side does not move? Thx

there should be 2 pistons and they both should move. if its stuck ,you need to replace the one you got out, back in, and hold it in with a "G" clamp or the like , re- bleed the oil , and pump the stuck one out, they can be stubborn little b*ggers.

OK I guess ill be doing that tomorrow. I bought 2 of these bikes. The 1 that runs had a stuck rear caliper and I rounded off the allen bolts that hold that pads in and now I cant get them out. The parts bike I got had stripped out mounts on the caliper. So I oredered 1 from Ebay. I got the allen bolts out but the 1 piston is stuck. Ill be puting it back together and clamping the 1 side. Thx for the info.

Also I just did the clutch rattle fix and now im on the brakes.

Yes it has 2 bleeders. I have 3 calipers and they all have the same piston stuck, but I noticed they are each sticking out at different measurements. One is flush with the casing one is a few mm raised and another is a few more mm raised, so unless they made them all different those pistons are at different levels. Stuck at different levels.
