    Howdy all,

I just bought myself an '81 Seca XJ550. I'm excited because this is my first bike. I just wanted to drop a note and say hello to everyone, hopefully I'll have a memorable (in a good way) time owning this bike.

Time to go play with my new toy.

    John

Greetings. Sure is a nice looking bike. One of the more "tasteful" stock paint jobs.

Welcome aboard, you came to the right place. Lots of great information and very helpful folks on this website. Looks like a pretty decent 550... great choice for a first bike too.

    Thanks guys.

Yes I do agree, this seems to be a great first bike. Everything is right where it should be, its perfect for my size (About 5'11"), The clutch was suprisingly easy to get used to (having never done it with my hand), it just felt right.

My hands are just about frozen though. LOL Colder day.

Hi, from an owner of an identical bike!

I bought mine as a 1st bike last summer, and I love it. I've got big plans for it this winter/spring, as well. I'm a bit taller (6'4") so the ride is a little cramped, but i got used to it quickly. Even with a big guy like me on it's back, this bike is pretty peppy.

Did you get the fairing with that bike? I don't see it in the pics, but I know mine come off and on pretty often. I'm not sure if i like it or not.

Love the look of the bike stock! I wouldn't change a thing except add more miles to it!

I've got the same bike, also my first and I love it. I was out yesterday for the first time in a while and had two pairs of gloves on to keep my fingers warm. Enjoy.

Well, now, that's a familiar looking machine. How'd you get into my garage? Oh wait, you've got stock exhaust. Sorry. And welcome to the forum!

    Thanks very much guys.

So Tonight I decided I got comfortable enough with driving in neighborhoods (stopping, going, shifting, ect) and parking lots (turn and speed control, shifting fluency) that I took it out on an empty highway.

Holy moly! I've been missing out.

I'm sitting here shivering from the cold as I type this, but thats one life experience I'm glad I chalked up on the blackboard.

The whole bit with "push in the direction you want to turn" didn't really make much since until now. What an oddity.

    Oh, and about the fairing...

I've got it. Not a huge fan of its looks... but after feeling that wind resistance, I'm tempted to put it back on.

The stock fairing keeps the wind off your shoulders and chest, which helps out on long rides. People either love the looks of the fairing or hate it. I figure the bike came with it, so it's staying on.
