Ok so as the title implies My xj head cam journals are damaged and I have access to an xs head. I know they are a direct fit but the xs doesn't have the YICS system. That's fine but I would like to know if anyone else has done this and if so did you have to use the same cams or can I swap the xj cams in as well?

You can use the XJ cams but you'll have to make sure that the cam will turn easily when the cam caps are bolted down onto them.
They are supposed to be a machined fit but i've used different cams with non matching cam caps before. If the cams won't turn easily the things will possibly seize.
Contrary to popular belief it can be done.

Ignore me, i'm talking bull in my previous post.
The XJ uses a big valve head and different pistons to a standard XS1100. You will need to find a head with the big valves from a later model XS like the Midnight Special and also use the matching pistons with the cutaways that fit the valves.
Complicated, i'd totally forgotten the differences and please accept my apologies.
I'd try and use a XJ1100 head with matching cams or find a later model XS head with matching cams.
Sorry about that and hope that you've not gone and bought something already that isn't suitable. What was i thinking!

Thanks for the heads up. I've located but haven't purchased yet. I will now focus my energies on the proper head
