That is impressive. I like your previous headlight that you had on the bike.

It's been a LONG road, but I finally got this beast to finally run right! I had a megasquirt guru come by the shop and help with the setup. The project is finally coming into the final phase. The next step is to tear apart and metal finish and paint.

I'm going to be doing that last most likely. Probably be like 6-10 weeks from now. The bike will be done at that point.

Ok, since this whole bike build idea all started right here, I'm going to give you all the first sketch of the paint scheme. I don't think I'm going to publish it anywhere else until it's done. An inspired tribute to the OU28!

PS: please forgive my fat finger turbo :)

Finished the bodywork and paint just in time for the Forged invitational. I still have to break the engine in and dyno tune the bike. Almost there, the finish is near! Photos by Silver Piston Photography

WOW!!! You have stuck with this build/project for just over six years, at least on the forum that is. The photos are very well done and the bike looks amazing. Looking forward to some videos of the bike once you have it sorted. Bravo!!!!

Thanks Buddy! It's been a long road, but I stuck with it and I'm really happy with how it turned out. It all started on this site way back in 2012.

Just read the whole story - impressed doesn't do it justice. Pretty sure it's unusual for something this detailed to get finished, well done indeed.

    Over the top execution Skylrk!
This is obviously not your 1st build, can you share any other bikes with us?
Can you tell me where you got the pistons?
What CR do you have now and did you need to shim the barrels to lower it or did the pistons alter it?

Yeah, the bike is getting a LOT of (well deserved) attention. 2 different threads have been started linking articles about it recently. Lots of questions from inquiring minds...

We also made a really cool video for the debut. We were trying to give a 80's race through laght night Tokyo vibe. Enjoy! As of the moment of typing this, there is almost 39,500 views on instgram. It's such a surprise & honor that so many have taking an interest in my project.

Hi Guys, Hope all is well! I decided to sell a Modern Yamaha R6 front end machined to fit a 1982 XJ750 Maxim frame. I had the original steering shaft from the Maxim pressed into a machined R6 lower triple tree and machined upper R6 to fit. It may fit XJ650, but I'm not 100% sure. It also has a brand new all balls tapered bearing kit included. It cost over $1,500 with parts. I'm selling it today for $600 +shipping. Note: you'll have to modify your steering stops as the handlebars (not included) will hit the tank. a really nice setup for a cafe or custom look!

You might get more traction if you posted in the Buy/Sell/Trade section.

Hello @skylrk62 we haven't heard from you in some time.
Have you put some miles on the Turbo Maximus? How is it working?

Hi there! Sadly No. The Turbo Maximus rests in the shop. I'm currently building a YZF750 superbike which has taken all my time. I plan to race it this year in AHRMA. It was my teenage year dream bike and it's almost ready! I still have plans for the Maximus. The middle gear is a problem I plan to solve. Hopefully, in the next couple of years, I'll have a prototype and working parts to get past the ridiculous low gearing.

    @skylrk62
I jsut went back to reread the thread, and found that some of the photos from the first few pages are missing.
Would you mind relinking them when you get the chance? I know that it'll be a project and a half, but man.....this needs to still be a complete thread for posterity's sake.

Thanks. The Photobucket BS from a few years ago ruined a lot of the threads, and we still haven't gotten all of the older ones fixed.

And if you ever need a place to store a turbo Maxim at no charge..... :p
