    Hi all,
I have a 1982 Yamaha XJ650. The other day I was lubing, checking cables and I noticed a spring on the clutch lever (where rod goes into clutch housing and engages/disengages clutch). The spring does not put tension on anything. One end is broken, or cut off. It just flops around. The clutch returns to engaged position. Maybe there is some kind or return mechanism in clutch. Seems to work fine without it and probably been like that for a long time. So, is the spring necessary? I don't find it on XJ4ever parts list, but I could just be missing it. Great place for all your XJ parts. Len's always had what I needed. here are a couple of pics of it.

Sill available from Yamaha as it is used on many models. Just send Len an email with the pic and he’ll get you hooked up.
And yes the spring is necessary.

the returm mechinisim is the clutch its springs and the pull rod
gear on clutch shaft has a gear on it which pulls the pull rod out this removes spring tension on clutch plates. then when you release clutch lever it all goes back in position
that spring keeps the arm tensioned on the gear and pull rod

Got a new spring installed, replaced clutch cable while I was at it. Thanks Len @ XJ4ever for the parts. Great service as always. Thanks to this forum and users for the advice.
