'81 xj550 Maxim. AFTER I bought this I realized how much I dislike the Tank shape. The teardrop shape does not lend itself to a Cafe Racer look at all... And, the seat is gigantic! So, I've ridden her for a year with a $30 Amazon seat held on with straps because I can't decide on a seat design. I'd definitely like to reuse the seat pan and just make a smaller, streamlined seat. I don't mind welding on a rear loop, but I don't want a major frame mod for a bobber. Opinions, advice & ball kicks are welcome. Go! Sounds like you need to trade it in for the 550 seca model. Will save you an awful lot of titting about.
