So I came across a lower km engine as mine was running poor psi, so I swapped it out. Long story short, I had to swap that engine with another. My own stupidity.

Bike starts but don't wanna run, I take the plug wire off one at a time while I keep it running, cyl 1,2 and 3 all die out more. But when I pull 4 there's no change.
Put another set of coils on, same thing no change when I pull #4

Carbs are clean. But scratching my head on if its the coils where two different sets do the same thing on cyl 4. So it go me believing it's the carbs.

    Any advice will be appreciated.

Just checked coils. Readings on primary are 3ohm secondary is getting nothing. So I guess I'll be ordering some dyna coils.

Is there any link for the max X dyna coil install.

The plug leads should be grounded as running it with leads disconnected can damage the TCI l believe.

Had to swap coils recently on my X and it was time consuming, but I got all cylinders to "light". Good luck with the upgrade. Curious, was finding a replacement engine expensive?

As long as he has one plug connected to the motor it is still grounded for that ignition coil so disconnecting plug for cap and leaving plug one cap connected has the ground in place. As the wires the same wire from one end to the other of the spark plug caps. It's when you disconnect both spark plugs set of the set that you will cause issues.

Are the OEM 1AA-82310 ignition coils hard to find? I think I have a couple. Look to be the same for the XJ700 waterheads and airheads.

It's still wasted spark. Best is to put an extra plug in the pulled cap and rest it on the block, so that you still have two plugs firing in series. I doubt that coils are your problem.

Ground, by the way, has basically nothing to do with the secondary side of the coils. Don't believe me? Try this: take two plugs out, put them in the caps from 1/4 or 2/3 (i.e. plugs in the two caps that come off of one coil), then put a rubber band around the two plugs so that the outer metal parts of their bodies are touching; leave them hanging loose and crank the engine. You'll see spark in both plugs. No "ground" involved.

XJ550H provided a cross reference link for me when I was looking for coil replacements for my X. I ended up purchasing a few used ones in good shape that tested well. I even took the time to disassemble the caps and refurb. So far, they're working like a champ.

Ordered new dyna coils anyway. Even if it's not the issue it'll be a nice upgrade.
