I started out disgusted that I hadn’t seen this sooner. Now I’m just confused. What is the best plug for my bike?

Since it’s 9/85 I should be calling it a 1986. I’ve been mistakenly calling it an ‘85, because that’s the same year as my Honda’s. I thought it was odd/cool that all 3 of my rice burners take the same plugs. How convenient. My XJ came with NGK D8EA and that’s what the parts stores have said. However, today I’m flipping through my book looking for specs on resistances on other electric components and I come across the plug size and gap BP8ES. I surfed through other threads here and came across talk about which BP works best but nothing on my specific issue.

I’d like to hear from the guys with my bike, who have had their bikes running for a long while and are happy with their spark plug choice before I go running to buy more. While we’re at it, let’s have the NGK vs Champion, Autolite… discussion. I haven’t tried anything other than NGK in any of my bikes. Maybe it’s time.

With further inspection, it appears that the obvious difference between the B & D plugs is the diameter of the threaded shaft. If I’m reading the chart correctly one is 12mm while the other is 14mm. No way they’d interchange.

I’ve been using a PDF manual on CD for many of my repairs. It’s been great to search for keywords and be brought directly to every occurrence of said word, through the entire manual. Though I just looked up radiator and antifreeze for the first time. They don’t exist.
The difference between the plugs is X (liquid cooled) and no X (air cooled).
Thx for listening to me babble and answer my own question. Moderators are welcomed to delete this thread, unless they think it could help someone else somehow.

:) sorry didn't see your post earlier or I would have told you. I use the iridium IX NGK plugs by the way since a long time. They suit me best. Not everyone's cup of tea though.

You're welcome, just don't trust everything I say :) I'm not a mechanic for sure. Just a quy who owned and own a few maxim X's over the years, love these bikes an likes to read about it.
