Anyone know a low cost source for motorcycle insurance? I was hoping there was someone doing something along the lines of what Haggerty or Grundy does for low cost collector car insurance. Any ideas?

To be honest, in Texas I refer most of my liab only guys to a company called Dairy Land.
You will have to check to see if they Insure in Florida.
I dont have access to my database while at home, but should be on their website.

    *EDIT* Heres a link
    http://www.sentry.com/DairyLandInsurance/Default.aspx

I use Nationwide and I pay about 102/year

Best rate I was able to find in Michigan for liability only was Progressive.

Geez the title of the thread caught me.... "Low cost" and "Bike insurance" in the same sentence -- I don't think those words are even allowed to be within 50 meters of each other here in Canada.

Ontario where I live is one of the worst. I won't give many examples - they're frightening.

My specific case sees me paying $450/yr for liability only for the Maxim.

I'm insured by Echelon through Riders Plus. I think they've pretty much got a stranglehold on the bike market, at least in Ontario. My rates are about the same as Altus', maybe a few bucks more.

But hey, what price do you put on three, maybe four months of motorcycling joy?

As an FYI and to help anyone else in Ontario, my insurance is through Pilot -- you'll probably have to go through a broker to get a quote from them. And the $450 number is after taxes.

For everyone else in the world - is this telling you anything? 4x the cost of the one number posted in this thread, and already two people asking about it as being "low". And this is basic liability - no theft, no fire, no collision, no nothing else fancy. Motorcycle insurance in Ontario is F***ked up. I have known some experienced riders who are still paying well in excess of $1000/yr to ride....

I'm only paying $75 a year through AllState. But that's only liability.

I use DairyLand for my 81 Seca, liability only costs a whole whopping $49/year. :D Just can't beat less than $1/week for insurance.

Yeah I have been using Geico for a long time at $120/yr and the other day I decided to get a quote from Dairyland. $58/yr! I had to make the lady repeat herself because I didn't believe her at first. I'm switching.

I've always found Geico to be the highest (Car, motorcycle, boat...). Warren Buffet didn't become one of the richest men in the world by selling insurance too cheap.

I paid $ 543.00 last year for just basic coverage and 2 million 3rd party liability coverage. I only had it insured for 9 months, from Feb 16th to Nov 15th.

They tell me I saved 43% for being a claims free driver too!

I have geico on 3 cars at 70 per month liability. When I was searching, they beat everyone by several hundred $ per 6month.

I havent tried insuring the not-yet-running motorcycle... As I have no real experience yet, or even my license... I wonder how that will all pan out when I do.

Guys this is got to be a great topic to bring up peoples blood pressure. When I bought my bike last year (end of NOV)I called around to see what I was in for as a new rider. I had qoutes of 1200-2000 dollars. And that's with my safety course. I figured you stay with a company for 15-16 years (cars insurance) you'd get a break. Not in Nova Scotia, so I'll get liability for around 500 or so. This relly bites paying more for a older bike then my new car!

A lot is state (or province) dependent. Mine is about 200/year. A sizable chunk of that goes to the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Fund, which is part of our "No Fault" insurance law. I believe that is a fixed dollar amount, so someone with a brand new Bently pays the same amount into the fund I do for the XJ.

I insure both bike with Progessive. My 1100 Shadow is about $180 for full coverage and I get a discount on the second bike. So the Seca costs $1 for liability!!! Can't beat that. (That's for one year)

Have any of you heard of Markel Bikeline Insurance? They specialize in motorcycles, or so Ive heard. They are based out of Wisconsin. I got a quote from them for my 82 750 and was given 400 per year. Mind you I'm new to motorcycles and only have my permit, so she did the quote without my M1. I don't think thats too bad. And I have it set up so I pay it all the first four months at 100 a month and don't have to worry about bike insurance until it renews again 8 months later.

Part of the reason our rates are lower is it's very unusual for anyone to hit a moose. :D
