Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and the proud owner of an 86 xj700 as well being a new rider as of May of this year.

So in my quest to finally finish having the bike perfect, I just wanted to know where the voltage should be when the bike is idling. The stator works greats as does the r/r but at idle I'm pulling 12.7-12.9 volts that's with the engine on and front lights on. The headlamp, tail lights and gauge lights are all led. So I'm sure I'm saving some power there but I couldn't find in the manual what the voltage should be. I'm great with cars especially ford's but I know a stator works different than a alternator in a vehicle. Hopefully one of you more experienced guys or gals could lend me your knowledge. The carbs were rebuilt and synced it holds at around 1100rpms no issues there.

I found this in another thread, so I think yours is okay.

    * approximately 500-2000 rpms: 1.8 volts gradually increasing to 14.2 volts
    * 2000+ rpms: 14.2 volts up to about 14.8 volts, with a maximum of 14.8 volts

So yes the volts definitely increase with giving it more throttle and when im on the highway im at 14.7 volts. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking anything. Thank you, I'll take all the help I can get lol.

I think you are fine if the voltage hits 14+ at higher RPM.
