This forum will be for showing and identifying rare, obscure, previously-unknown, and/or otherwise hard-to-find parts.

Mostly, these are ones I've scrounged, collected,etc....... But I will also include ones that others have or have have found.......if you have something that you think might be a good item to include, send me a conversation with a pic and information. It might just appear here.....

    Sport Rack - 1985/1986 XJ700/750/700X/750/X

These are primarily seen with the tall backrest, but they DID fit with the low grab bar, too. You just have to have the OTHER optional mounts for mounting with the low grab bar.

The reason is that the low grab bar tilted back a little bit farther than the tall backrest. The mounting brackets for the tall backrest are too short, and the rack interferes with the grab bar. So, the mounts for the low grab bar are a little longer, and the angle for the rack itself is slightly steeper.

The Sport Rack was also available for the '84+ Virago. the mounts for the virago are entirely different. They do not retro-fit to the '85/'86 XJ.

    image.jpeg

In the picture below--notice the top bracket is a bit longer than the bottom bracket. Also, note that the angle of the top bracket is slightly flatter than the bottom bracket.

Top bracket is longer, and is for the Sport Rack mounted with the LOW grab bar.
Bottom bracket is shorter, and is for the Sport Rack mounted with the TALL backrest.

    Factory manuals - XJ750D

This is a fuel injected clone of the 650 Seca Turbo and looks identical. The turbo was not sold in the Japanese domestic market.
The xj750D differs a little in having a bit more bling such as a radio/ cassette and digital instruments with trip computer with various memory functions

Special thanks to Yu Tanaka for sending these original manuals to me.

    Instrument Hood - 1980-1983 XJ650 Maxim, XJ550 Maxim, 1983 XJ750 Maxim ( and several XS. Models )

This was an optional instrument cluster hood to act as a visor over the gauge cluster. There is a clip that goes over the middle "square" with the four indicator light.

    Engine Guards - 1981-1983 XJ750 Seca

These engine guards were an option, and were aluminum painted black with bright edges. There was also the option of black edges. If you look closely, you can see "750S" stamped on the inner surface of the upper mounting pad.

    Engine Guards - 1983 XJ900rk Seca

These engine guards were and option, and were aluminum painted black with bright edges. The were almost identical to the XJ750 Seca. The biggest difference was that the support webs for the 900rk Seca were straight angled pieces wherease the supports for the XJ750 Seca were curved (see previous post). On the pairs I have, there is nothing stamped on the upper mounting pads on the 900rk guards.

    Factory Manual - XJ400S

This is an original factory manual for the xj400s. I believe this model was a Japan-only bike. It is the 400 Diversion, and is basically a smaller version of the 600 Seca II (Diversion).

Special thanks to Yu Tanaka for supplying me with this book.

I helped one of our members get his xj900rk brakes straightened out. He makes awesome braided belts....I sent my buckle (see above) out to him, and he made this for me ---the colors match the red with silver and black stripes of the 1983 JYA35H USA-delivered XJ900rk. By the way, I now have a little over 100 entries on the 1983 XJ900rk Seca Database for USA-delivered units.

    Power Lock Tag

I just found this in a 1982 Xj650rj. I’ve never seen one before. If there is enough interest, Len may look into having some repopped. Send me private message if you’re interested. I will also make an open forum for people to comment on.
