    My latest score. 1983 XJ750RK Seca with the touring package. Top case and side bags are not on in the picture, but I have them. Excellent condition - 14,xxx miles.

    Since you ae a forum member I can give you a very discounted rate on the service. All you need to do is deliver it to my garage. The process usually takes around a year, but can take up to ten years if it's in it's original super-dangerous state.

    I haven't torn into this bike much yet, so I haven't been able to discover this bit of information for myself. So I thought I would ask because it is kind of driving me nuts. But what the heck is this thing in the middle of the fairing for???

    I think there is supposed to be a knob that goes down into the headlight to adjust the beam height. Yep, you got yourself a pretty bike, Congrats. I had one for awhile (traded for a Turbo). I found it to be comfortable but the fairing was not as effective as it is stylish and swoopy looking. Have fun!

    Certainly not.

    True dat. I put a little extension on the top, that helps. But it's still no GoldWing.

    That makes perfect sense. Seems like something that may be on the spectrum of Unobtainium. @chacal do you have these bits? Anybody have a picture of what it should look like??

    Seek and ye shall find, I suppose. I found this photo from eBay. Good look at what the knob should look like. I don't know if I want to fork out $200 for the whole fairing just to get that knob though.

    Make your own. Find the correct metric thread, get a suitable length socket cap screw and a press on knob. Assuming all it does is press down, which means the headlight would need to be spring loaded upward. There has got to be a way to figure it out.

    I got the fairing dismantled. I found the original spring and square nut for the headlight adjustment knob rolling around inside. Also a couple shards of glass from the original headlight cover.

    The nuts and bolts mounting the fairing was a hodge-podge of random stuff people had laying around their garage over the years. I would appreciate it if anybody knows what the mounting nuts and bolts are supposed to be. (I can't even tell if they are supposed to be SAE or Metric at this point)

    A fun fact for people playing along at home is that the tiny hex socket head screws that attach the headlight trim to the fairing and the headlight mounting screws are NOT metric. Grab your SAE hex keys for these.

    One of the two headlight mounting screws (see catalog #HCP16999) appeared to be a screw that one would use to attach an outlet cover to a receptacle. That's some creative problem solving right there.

    I'm going to bite the bullet and buy an original headlight adjuster knob assembly off of eBay. Maybe I will work on reproducing one just for fun.

    Turns out that @chacal has some bits of the headlight adjuster listed in the catalog:
    HCP17018 Aftermarket headlight adjuster knob-to-shaft SET SCREW, used to mount adjuster knob to the adjuster shaft.
    HCP16990 Aftermarket headlight adjuster knob-to-shaft C-CLIP, used to retain the adjuster knob to the adjuster shaft.
    HCP16703 Aftermarket headlight adjuster shaft spring FLAT WASHER, fitted at the base of the spring at the bottom of the adjuster shaft.
    HCP16994 Aftermarket headlight adjuster shaft spring SQUARE NUT, fitted at the bottom of the adjuster shaft.
    HCP16991 Aftermarket headlight adjuster shaft nut C-CLIP, fitted at the bottom of the adjuster shaft, within the threaded area.

    In 1986 I extrapolated (using the tach) and got it to do 125 just like it said it would in the Hot Rod magazine article but then I hit high speed wobble and crashed. I spent 4 days in hospital. The stuffed animal made the stay bearable.

    Here's my 3rd 750 Seca.

    Be good to know if you had any touring kit on at the time? As a young kid I used to read a popular motorbike mag, it was full of stories of death wobble machines, usually caused by top boxes and fairings....

    I'm curious too. I've had mine to 125 several times with a top box on, but not with the whole touring kit or the fork mounted fairing.

    Yep. And the frame mounted fairing became standard with the XJ750 touring package in ‘83.

    I have the original touring kit installation manuals for the hard bags and fairings. Sadly don't have the fairing and lowers anymore since they broke being shook around. Still have the saddlebags and mounts but the mounts are broken maybe that'll be a winter project to make new ones. If you want any pictures of the manuals lmk.

    Well, actually, all the XJ750 Seca models (even the 1981 models with the little "sport" fairing) used frame-mounted fairings. Only the XJ550 Seca and the 1983 XJ900 Seca models used fork-mounted fairings.....this statement refers to "factory" fairings (whether standard or a dealer-installed factory optional fairing).

    In Germany, Yamaha came out with a kit to frame mount the fairing og the 900 Seca (which was just the XJ900 there) due to complaints of high speed stability issues with the handlebar mounts.

    There is already some documentation about the rear bags here: https://www.xjbikes.com/forums/showcase/xj-rj-rear-baggage-list.64/ Nobody seems to have gotten excited about the copyright on that. Looking at the photos I don't see a copyright on the documents either.

    Bump for this thread. I got my hands on what I believe is a factory “X1” style touring fairing with included lowers, but I can’t seem to find any info on the mounting bracket or even what it looks like. I’ve found a decent number of Vetter brackets that look like they may work, but I don’t want to bet the barn going off from eBay pictures and what “May work”. So seeing those install manuals that @Mototimothy8 mentioned would hopefully help with locating or fabricating a mount. Pics below for reference

    Interesting. That is not a style of fairing that I've seen before. Looks like it has the same 9-pin wiring connector.

    These do have the 9 pin connector on them. The pictures I uploaded were from the eBay posting but it is really in much better shape in person. I’m excited to get it mounted, I also was able to get the luggage, trunk and mounting bracket as well. Turning this into a winter commuter as the winters are usually very mild where I’m at and I live roughly an hour from work

    If I’m high jacking this thread, I apologize. On the subject of X1 lowers, were there different style lowers for different models? I mocked up the fairing tonight and there is no way the lowers that are currently attached are going to fit around the engine. I believe the donor for the fairing was an XS920, as that is what’s written in paint marker on the fairing itself.

    If it is the case that the lowers are model specific, I would be much more interested in the spares that you may have @hogfiddles

    Got a little flu running around the house this weekend so I didn’t get a chance to get out to the garage to take the pics yesterday, but here they are. I’m looking at the picture that was posted earlier in the thread with the XJ with the full tour pack on and it looks like the front turn signals need to be moved as well as the rears for the fairing to fit correctly, so that may be the issue I’m running into right now of why I can’t seem to make it fit right on mock up.

    Also, I have the full rear tour pack including the trunk mount but I haven’t been able to find an example of the brackets that actually attach the bag mount to the frame. I searched the forum and find an original install schematic posted up by @Tim morris that shows a rather undetailed view of that bracket labeled as “luggage carrier stay.” Anyone by any chance have a better example of this as well?
