Hi Guys, think I messed up buying this import non running bike in the UK, not many parts available or info, so hoping I can pick your brains a bit cos I really like the look of this bike! Anyway, got spark, got it running using "easy start" fired into air filter (probably called something else in USA) but I reckon you'll know what I mean? Petcock seriously past its sell by date so going to fit a gravity one & seal off the vacuum, but what is the electrical item mounted in the tank just forward of the petcock, 2 wires, green, black connecting near the battery, it's an 85 air cooled, can I just blank off, bypass & disregard. Thanks for any replies, I might be back with a load more questions, again thanks guys from the UK

image1-600x448.JPG I'm not a 700 expert - but most peeps on here will suggest you repair and rebuild everything back to original. Whether you are an originista (made that up) or not, there are very good reasons for this - in original form they perform very well, and modifying one that is running well step by step is different to modifying an unknown, especially if you don't know the idiosyncrasies of the type.
So strip and rebuild the carbs and the petcock, brakes and electrics, set the valve clearances, change oil and filter and you should have a rider. All the info is here, click on the xjforever emblem in the top right, kiss goodbye to half a day...
Oh, congratulations, you've bought a really well made old bike.
    Here's one of mine

Thanks Minimutley, great to have support, but can't find parts for a USA only manufactured bike in the UK, wish it was different, cos I so like the look of this bike, but gotta do what I can know I've bought it! Anyway, thank you so much for getting back to me, much appreciated

That is the fuel level sensor - it lights the "Fuel" warning light on the instrument cluster.

Agree, fuel level sensor, only gives indication, not likely to hinder riding.
Don't worry about text - take heed of my advice, get the standard spec, original bike running, more smiles per miles.
    Where are you?

XJforever--upper right-- can send parts. And you will get the correct part the first time.

As for parts availability I use
yamahapartsnation.com to find part numbers that maybe available in the UK
Many parts are used in other markets like seals and bearings and everyday bits.
I have 2 Xj700n parts bikes and shipping is a bit more so let me know what you need.
