It took 5 years but my 85 xj700x is finally running! All that was needed apparently was a deep cleaning of the carbs. First time hearing it run and so excited! now i just got fews things to do. oil change and spark plugs tonight. take the seats to get reupholstered tomorrow. I would like to delete the air box simply because it would just make pulling the carbs a lot easier down the road but i see it requires different jetting and makes tuning a lil harder. Also the rear taillights are taped on to brackets on the back. not sure if can replace those yet

Buuuut thanks to everyone for the help! couldn't have done it with ought this site. so much knowledge here and and the willingness to help and not talk sh*t to new people to these bikes just blows my mind. You guys are truly amazing!

you can unbolt the airbox and it will slide back some to make carbs easy to install.

    keep the air box

@Klutched v4.2 - I've got some rear signal lights and/or rear brake lights sitting around. Let me know if you need some.

If you did carbs right you should not have to remove then again.

Here's what I've got. Fronts are still on the mounting bracket and rears are still attached to the fender stays.

The fender stays are a bit scratched up, but the turn signals look pretty good. If you don't need the fender stays then who cares.
