    Can someone please tell me what this is, and is it supposed to be tight with the bottom thing poking out more, or loose with the bottom thing up more?

    It's the switch for rear brake light, and the wire hook is broken above where the spring should be. A complete wire is visible in the attached photo. This photo was taken when the bike was being disassembled, with the swingarm removed.
