Starting problems

    Hey guys. Hopefully someone has an answer to my question. I have a 1983 Yamaha xj550. The bike doesn’t want to start after sitting for a few hours. If I spray a tiny bit of carb cleaner into the carbs it starts fine. If it let the bike run for 30 seconds and then turn it off it starts right back up no problem. So after the bike has ran it will start no problem for the next hour or so but if it sits for a couple hours it doesn’t want to start. The bike runs great. Maybe someone has had the same problem as me. Thanks In advance!

    Are your valves in adjustment? I believe hard starts can be a symptom of out of spec valves.

    Not a good rider by mechanically but you should check the plug first. Clean it and start with a smooth push again if that's didn't work! find a good garage or maybe somebody else will help you out
