I’m sure you know the chain guard for the 550r should be black plastic. But yes, the chrome ones from a 550 maxim are a nice swap out—-
Contact me privately... I think I have a couple extras.

    Dave,

I am looking for the Engine guard. The chrome one that protects the engine. Mine got a little destroyed by the Subaru collision. Thanks.

    Hi Dave,

Found it on the xj site. Two point mad max crash bar. Now on to finding some other "damaged" parts.

    Thanks man.

I have those engine guards on my XJ550 maxim - dealer installed when I bought the bike new. The main reason I had them installed was to add foot pegs up front.

They protected the engine case/covers when I accidently lowered the bike in a parking lot about 3 years ago...I thought the kick stand was down.

The guard bent, but saved the engine. Used a sledge to straighten it, which likely weakened it a bit :-(

Not sure how effective they would be in a real crash, but figure they may also give my feet a bit of protection by deflecting something sideswiping the bike.

They did protect my shins/ankle when I dropped the bike in the parking lot!
