The title says most of it, I bought this bike non running a few weeks back, I bought a new battery to throw in it and when I go to connect the battery terminals, red positive, black cable from solenoid to positive, and the ground to negative, I get a bunch of Sparks and a little smoke

+1 on checking battery polarity first to be sure you got it right.

    A few thoughts:

With the key off there should be just the Rectifier / Regulator that connects directly to the battery, so perhaps try unplugging that.

A stuck starter solenoid, but then the motor should try to turn over but if the Rectifier Regulator doesn't do it disconnecting the starter or high current wire from battery to starter solenoid would be a good plan.

A pinched wire shorting to ground or a miswire - there is a large red wire going to a single connector that feeds the main fuse, that can be disconnected to help isolate any shorts.
