This bike was going really cheap so I bought it, damn now what am I going to do with it?
Seems really complete, unfortunately no ownership with it.
I have acquired ownerships for other bikes in the past.
Paid for it, just haven't dragged it home yet, probably tomorrow.

If you have no room to store it at your place I can hold at my place for you.

That is actually a generous offer there @lostboy , seriously, space is a premium for me.
But I recently sold my FZ600 so I had a spot to fill, LOL. 7 bikes is pretty much my limit.

Our legal at work is a notary public, I think the last time I just had her make up a document stating the particulars of the bike, that its not stolen, then took that to the MTO office and they made me an ownership.
It wasn't a big deal as I recall.

Complete and seemingly unmolested - lucky you. Much better than my version. So it’s going to be rebuilt to new condition?

Really no plans for it @Minimutly If I can't get an ownership I'll part it out.
Lots of valuable stuff on it. The monster head light, instrument cluster with the very rare electronic tach, gas tank, oil cooler.
It has 65,000 kms on it. I have another 650RJC motor with 29,000 kms but unsure of its condition.

Around here you can buy good running 750 Maxims for a cheap donor transplant.
Let me think now, 750 with nitrous oxide, 16" wheel conversion....

Good on you for saving (so far anyway) a nice looking bike. Good luck on the ownership papers. I hate to see a bike like that go to parts or the scrapper or worse.... being cut up into a "cafe racer/bobber. I can't think of a better home for it than at your house @Simmy, well maybe mine but I have a Seca 650 that is getting some rehab with a Maxim 750 motor too. As a matter of fact yesterday I acquired a 1980 Honda CB900C for a similar price. It is in much rougher shape though.

If someone local really wants it send me a PM. I'm in Waterloo.
I have 2 shiny Secas now, just no intention to restore another.

The very rare electronic tacho - hmm, mine had one of these - I thought it was from a 750 - the engine had a drive, and the cable was there, so I fitted a mechanical one. How would I know what it should have - check if the wire is in the loom?

If you have a non-YICS motor with the mechanical drive on the cam shaft and it is the original motor to the frame then you should have the mechanical tach.
How was your electronic tach plugged in? The 650RJC wiring harness has a 4-wire plug for the tach, brown, orange and blue & black for the lamp.
Did your electronic tach have a completely round face, if the bottom of the face has a flat edge it might be from a Maxim.
What 750 were you suspecting? I'm curious if there is another donor for these rare electronic tachs.
The only 2 bikes I'm aware of are the XJ650RJC and the XV920R (although the red-line is lower).
Here is a pic from my Turbo with RJC electronic tach installed.

Sounds like you need one of these tachs for this.

now I need to ask, has anyone installed another tach into the Seca's nacelle?
Seems like an XJ700 for example is the same diameter and all but a different style chrome ring (and white face).
I suppose you could carefully open the glass and swap that over.

@Simmy, you are correct. I will be needing a tach of that style and motivation but I don't want one bad enough to cause an otherwise intact bike to be parted to get it. That XJ900 you posted pictures of is pretty. I like that, I don't NEED it but I surely like it. Is that one that has potential to join your herd?

Yes, the infamous XJ900N, the "naked" model (no fairing): also note the traditional round-tube handlebars versus the multi-adjustable, 22-piece handlebars system used on regular XJ900 models. And perhaps best of all, it also has the big honking 8" headlight.....

Now that I have taken the time to go back and READ the post I can see those are the ads for those bikes, and the first is even in
German that I did not notice the first, quick time through. Still, very attractive lines and paint work.

It was never sold in North America, only in "Oceania", which basically means Australia and New Zealand, and for 1 year only, so it's quite rare:

    MODEL NAME: XJ900N
    STREET NAME: 1985 XJ900
    MODEL ID CODE: 1FX
    FRAME ID: 1FX
    SERIAL NUMBER STARTS AT: 000101
NOTE: 891cc engine, no fairing, XJ650RJ Seca style instrumentation, the big 8" headlight, and traditional round-tube handlebars.

Well I dunno, I haven’t checked the loom on my seca, but I doubt the engine is original - it’s a non yics.
The tacho looked right at home in there, but the rust from inside had jammed the movement up - fixable I think.
I’ll post a pic of it, and maybe check the loom..

Easy enough to convert a 900 Seca with 650 stuff. Those fork crowns would be unique though.
Without them you would have to modify 650R fork crowns to fit the 37 mm forks.
I'm not recommending this BTW. XJ's are still capable of 120MPH.

still looking for response to this
since any electronic 650 Seca tach you find today will be weathered out, I'd really like to know what can be adapted.
This is important for anyone putting a 750 into a Silver 650 and still trying to keep OEM appearance.
My sidecar Seca has rarely been ridden in the rain and seen very little time in the sun.
Even so the tach quit working so I tried taking it apart, to the point where I had a thousand loose pieces.
The replacement I found at the time still works fine but the face is faded.
Thinking someone clever with a 3D printer could make an adapter to hold any Yamaha tach that has the same diameter and appearance.
Maybe become an eBay tycoon, sell a Chinese tach with different faces to fit all the 70/80s Japanese bikes being restored. Just fit it under the OEM glass.
Everyone on the planet restoring an old bike could use your tach.

    https://www.johnnysvintagemotorcycle.com/
I mention these guys just because he uses a guy in Florida who rebuilds all his Kawasaki instruments, might be an option.

Ontario has a used vehicle package which lists all the previous owners for every vehicle registered in the province.
All you need is an Ontario drivers license, a vehicle serial number and $20.
I applied on-line for this, supposed to take 5 days.
I typed in the 82 Yamaha serial # and it popped up - 82 YAMAHA RED - is this the vehicle you're inquiring about?
I've been reading some stuff on sledder's websites for this and how they got ownerships for sleds.
    This is step 1.

Well I received the used vehicle package for this bike.
There is only one previous registered owner of this bike in Ontario and he lived in Scarborough (Toronto) and registered it in 1994.
He has a somewhat common name and when I looked it up in the phone listings there are way too many to start calling.
He may be deceased who knows.
If by slim chance the owner was registered in a small town with an uncommon name, a sleuth could track him down and ask for a bill of sale.
There are other ways to get an ownership but I don't need a fraud charge, just not worth it.
So unfortunately, or fortunately this 650 Seca is a parts bike.
It's safely tucked away for now.
