Looks like it was a lot of fun ripping it apart. I can't imagine it being as much putting it back together.

Looks like your well on your way to a fun ride for sure. I like what you've done so far. Your on the right track as far as I can see. Your seat looks perfect. I'm interested to know how it rides with the hard tail instead of the stock suspension. Although I have thought about making mine a "hard tail", I'm not sure I'd be happy with just seat springs to soak up the bumps. Thanks for sharing! Keep us posted on your progess. PD

I'm impressed that you added a disc brake to the rear!

Give me a good price on your touring plastic and brackets and I'll drive up and get it, if it's in reasonable cond.--Serious, 'cause I'm looking at buying a fairing right now.

    Good work so far!
I assume you're doing the same kind of setup for the rear? Should be sweet, and ride like a 4 wheeler. :D

I think my rocket is getting sold tomoro so I should be rideing it in a week... or 2

It seems to me like some type of brace could be made to hold the tank down in the back from underneath. All that should be needed is one small screw to hold it.

id like to try this on my seca but id want it to be ride height adjustable. i was thinking if u used long trailing arms with heim joints instead of those solid tubes would that work or would the swingarm still pivot?? ill have to photoshop something to show what i mean

    That will work perfect!!
I have a pair of struts that were fabricated in much the same way. Mine are only adjustable on one end however. To adjust them, I only have to count the number of turns I make to raise or lower them and tighten the nut to hold them secure (the hard tail doesn't work so good without a spring seat I found) :? >PD<

are u sure that will work??? would the swing arm still be able to pivot?? i dont know it kinda looks like a 4 link on drag cars and i know those arent rigid. anybody have any ideas?? mechanical engineers??

No the swing arm will not be able to pivot. It is only used to adjust (lower) the bike in the rear. It would be rigid.
If you want the swing arm to pivot, you will need some kind of shock absorber. Either the stock setup (with two shocks) or fabricate a single shock under the bike, like sport bikes use.

When you replace the shocks and springs with solid bars or the heim units, you will have a rigid.
the pivot will still allow you to adjust the height with the heim units.

The Stock XJ Swing-arm isn't designed to be modified over to Mono-shock.
There isn't enough stock to accept the lower end of the shock without interfering with the rear wheel.

The Geometry isn't close enough to allow for the proper positioning of the Mono-shock and there's nothing at all to mount the Upper end too without reworking the whole frame.

It's an idea that been bandied about by a few, but the reality is the design won't permit it.
Just modifying the Rear-end to accept a larger tire requires plenty of cutting, welding and reinforcement.
I only know of one guy who did it and he did it half-heartedly without dressing the welds and repainting the Swing-arm. He got a wider tire on there but the job looked like heck.

    It will be rigid.

Nothing could possibly move unless something breaks.

Yea craniumcrunch69 it would have an adjustable ride height and be rigid but how would you mount the seat? Looks like a cool idea tho.
I sold one of my crotch rockets today so I just orderd my steel, taillight, seat, and a dot german style helmet (always wanted one of those). When I get more done ill let you guys know.

That's about what I would be looking at right now if I decided to rewire the bike. After I seen what was all under the tank and inside the headlight housing, I decided to just cut out the wires I didn't need and go from there. I can't imagine trying to make a wiring harness from scratch!! You must have more patience than I have.
I wish you luck on your venture and hope you get it right.

    Yes Twiztid,
I do some painting as a hobby. Mostly sign painting and vehicle pinstriping. I am experimenting with doing some graphics on my own bike right now also. It's not a business, just a hobby. >PD<

That'll bend at the first RR crossing.

it's not triangulated very well, IMO

    Twizdidframe,
Your on the right track now. It's starting to look like something (bobber) All you need now is a rear fender (if your even running with one?) and some final touches and your ready to ride. What color are you going to do it in? Keep them photos comin'!!
