You shouldn't need to do anything spectacular to get them off. It will be primarily the same actions as the other XJ bikes. Sometimes popping the airbox boots back into the airbox is a good trick, though they can be very difficult to get back on. XJ carbs are some of the most difficult of all older bikes to remove (in my opinion).

Take out the Airbox Boots. Don't mix them up. Then, you'll have plenty of room to pry the rack back and get them out.

When you get around to putting the Airbox Boots back-in ... wrap them in a wet towel and microwave them for 45-seconds.

The moist heat will make them nice and pliable and easy to position and align for reinstalling them after removal.

That's a cool microwave trick Rick. Sometimes I have a hard time getting the battery installed. Do you think I should try microwaving that too? ;o)

The credit belongs to "JeepDriver" who came to my place and we worked on getting his bike tuned ... only to have the power go off for 5 Hours.

When the power did come back on we were working hard to get the bike put together for a run at tuning it before he had to leave.

He told me to wrap the Boots in a wet towel and microwave them. I did.
They were so soft and pliable that we didn't have much of a fight getting them in the box and around the carbs.

    It's not my idea.
    It's someone else's ingenuity.
Works like a charm; though ... so, I recommend it!
