So I bought a project bike... started making a spreadsheet of what I need to purchase / check and feel like i'm potentially missing things.
This is strictly a list to make it safe / reliable to ride - not worried about cosmetic at this point (rusted bolts/tank paint, etc)

    Need to check / do

    • Valve clearances
    • Rear brakes (PO who had this bike as a project just did them, everything looks clean but i'm going to take it apart and check)
    • Front Brakes
    • Compression test
    • clean and lube switches

    Already Bought
    • Complete gasket set (tend to do this with my projects, so i have gaskets at the ready)
    • Valve cover donuts
    • Positive battery cable (terrible looking)
    • oil / oil filter change
    • speedometer cable (missing)
    • Petcock
    • Clutch lever (the one on the bike was from a dirt bike)
    • misc items like silicone lube, gasket tack, etc
    • Cable Lube and tool
    Already checked/done
    • Throttle cable (within spec/need lube)
    • Clutch cable (within spec/need lube)
    • Choke cable (within spec/need lube)
    • Plug wires within OHM
    • Fuel tank (no rust)
    • Lights functional (sans one light that is broken)
    • Clutch adjusted
    • Exhaust dent repaired (Cyl 1 was crushed from what looks to be a highside, sliced and banged it back to a circle and welded back up)
    --------------------------------

One other comment. Make sure you completely tear down the carbs, meaning break the rack, for total meticulous cleaning. That also means you might need to replace the throttle shaft(s) seals.

dont waste your money on the yics block off tool you wont notice the difference in the tuning.

when you change the gear lube in the rear acorn remove the fill plug first very important.
if you drain it first and then cant get the fill plug off you will not be able to refill it

Well I would be that guy... truth be told could still fill it up... if you turn the bike upside down! badumpshhhhhhhhhhhhh...........

i've heard it both ways with the YICS block off, but thr majority leaning toward not, think i will leave it out

the tool is just for tuning and not ment to be left in. there are little holes in the passage that need to be cleaned .
