Not a good noise from my atari

I have been hearing a noise from my Atari, I'm thinking it's the speedo cable and in my Atari is dry. What's the best way to lube it ?

 

The speedometr cable unscrews from under the ATARI, and unbolts from the speedomter drive with a single bolt under the drive. Remove the cablefrom its sleeve, and lubricate with lithium grease or a graphite-based speedometer cable lubricant.

You can get away with just removing the top fitting at the ATARI, but you'll have to re-apply lube more often. You can also spray a dry-film lubricant up into the spedometer cable socket without getting any into the face of the speedometer. That won't lube the bearing for the needle, but it will lube the input shaft.

 

If it is the bearing for the needle is that a job to lube that ? I'm thinking that it might be the problem because when doing 55 speedo says 45

 

You have to open the ATARI, remove the speedometer, and then clean and lube the nedle pivot (threads in the DYI section).
It's also possible (and fairly likely) that the speedometer needs to have the magnet re-calibrated.

However, a poorly lubricated speedo cable (or speedometer drive) can cause the same issue.

What is the ATARI guys?

 

Your speedometer/tachometer &warning lights. Cluster. Sorry this is on a 82 xJ 750 maxim

 

On the Seca 750 ,the Atari it is the oil, sidestand, headlight,taillight, fuel gauge ...by the way it will not make any noise, the problem is in the speedometer. The bearing in the gimble dries out , have had to tear into cluster and lube this on mine , it is only a temp fix , if it starts to "howl" have to repeat and try again.

 

So, I gotta know. Has anyone ever gone and got their Speedo / Magnet Calibrated??
My XJ750RL, reads 100Km/Hr, but GPS says 89.Km/Hr. This drives me crazy. Is there an easy way to correct this?

 

Determine how many rpm's 100 kph really is and look at the tach.

 

There are only about two shops that advertise that job, and they charge accordingly. I chose to use my label maker instead. This method has the advantage of providing a 95 MPH speedometer at a very low cost.

 

Yes, that is the fastest and cheapest way to "visually" correct the issue. But, it doesn't fix the mechanicals of the problem. There are people and businesses that can and will recalibrate gages. If anyone knows of these places, please post a link or web address to them. So people can inquire into these services and decide if its worth spending money on having a speedometer that works as intended.

Those are the only two that I know of in the US that have any sort of reputation for doing the work correctly. There may be others.
