    Hey guys ,

I'm happy to be a part of the community! A few weeks back, I was the lucky recipient of a 1982 XJ750 Seca, free of charge. The owner managed to get it to start a couple of days prior to me going down to pick it up, and it appeared to be a battery issue.

I replaced the battery and cranked away to no avail. The starter would crank, the engine almost fired a couple of times, once backfiring with quite the report.

We actually cranked so much that we ran the battery dead.

Armed with a trickle charger, I charged it back up, and continued to crank adjusting the choke, etc.. trying to get it to go, when all of a sudden. Bam.

Nothing. When I turn the key, not even the dash lights come on. No nothing. So I thought, must have blown a fuse. I located the fuse panel (which has now been set up as a series of fuse connectors instead of the panel) located and replaced the blown fuse, checked the rest and they were good. Thought awesome! Done and done, turned the key, and still nothing.

As I was checking things out, the starter solenoid doens't have the casing, and I'm wondering if that's part of the problem. If the starter solenoid is down, will there be electrical to the rest of the bike??

    Help please. :)

    Thanks,
    Bulk

hmmm something similar happened to my car once, usually there is a large main fuse or fuse-able link wire connected somewhere relatively close to the battery.... mine burned up and the car had just about the situation so maybe its something close to similar... i dunno sorry i'm not more help.

That's ok, I thought that the main fuse would likely be the culprit, but the fuse is fine. Perhaps the wire shorted out however... I'll have to see if I can trace it to find the short. Thanks for the suggestion, anyone else have similar problems?

There's a wiring diagram (2 parts, here and here) online for your bike. You'll also need the key to make sense of it.

It looks like you have a red wire coming off the battery that goes to the 20Amp main fuse, then on to the ignition switch, etc. I suspect you'll have to get your stab light or voltmeter out and start following the power until you loose it. I suspect your safety relay burned up, but that's just a guess. If you need help with the diagrams, just ask.

Thanks guys! I'll give it a shot. I need to get a multimeter, and I'll check it out this weekend.
