    Hello,

This is my ride so far :

I want to lower the front so today i took apart my front forks.
I welded a long piece of metal and some bolts on it to get the inside open ( damping rod side) because i read it on the forums here and saw a video on youtube.
Now when my welded thing was ready i tried to put it in , but it never got traction.
So i tried it on the other side and i was able to screw that open easily.
Now i'm thinking i don't have a dampening rod inside , is that possible ?
Sorry for my weird sentences but i don't know how to describe it.
Anyway when i tried looking inside the fork, i had the feeling already it was empty on the lower part..

In my XJ book it says it should have a dampening rod.

Now what if i don't have one ?
I want to shorten the forks but have no clue since i was prepared to shorten the spring.
And to put a spacer between the dampening rod. Because this is what most people do ..

    Thanks in advance.

    Update :

It seems i would have this in my front fork :

I just found this on youtube on a video from a yamaha xj seca.
Thats why my 22 or 19mm bolt didn't fit.
And when looking trough my fork (without much light ) it seemed that there were no edges on it.

If you did not have a damper rod inside, the fork would fall apart and there would be nothing for the bottom bolt to thread into.

    Franz and Laurensvdm like this.

    You were totally right.
I took everything apart, put a 5cm spacer at the dampening rod.
Then i wanted to put it together but i couldn't get it together so i've cut the spring with 4cm.
I heard people putting a spacer between the spring to get the wanted preload. Well i'm not sure how to do this because it already took my alot of force to put it together with the spring only..
I topped up the fork oil. ( a bit less then originally prescribed because the CC of the front fork is lower then before).

This is now what i have :

The space between my exhaust pipes and steer is dangerously tight.
This is probably because i didn't put a spacer above the spring ?
In its rest its pushed in to much because of the weight of the bike.

    How should i proceed ?

You might be better with new stronger springs.
