the best way to do it is: left hand on left grip, right hand on grab bar, foot pressing down on the center stand. Its more pushing the stand down, than it is pulling the bike up. Theres some pretty good videos that make it look easy, i dont remember where i saw them, check youtube. Once you get the right technique, it'll throw itself up there pretty much

Left hand on the bar, right hand on the grab bar, right foot on the center-stand pedal with it on the ground -- okay now you're ready. Stand up on your right foot while giving a tug on your right hand. You'll feel it go -- once you get it once, you'll know from then on :)

Adding to the others, you kinda rock it backward just a bit as you lift.

It takes practice. Get a good grip with your right hand on the sissy bar and pull up as you step down with your right foot. Meanwhile, use your left hand to steady the bike as you push it towards the your right. It's done in one smooth motion. Once you get the "feel" for it, you can pop it right up on the center stand.

Good! I'm not the only one who has this problem. You won't hear me calling you 'wimp'. :) It took me about 15 tries when I put it away for the winter. Finally got it up, but cripes, it was a lot of pulling. Hopefully I'll master the technique because the wife just about peed herself watching me. A real blow to the biker image.

Of course, she laughs at me a LOT!

if you stop the bike with the back wheel on a 5/4 board, a little girl can do it

Back in the day when my 81 650 Maxim was brand new, I was down at the beach and struggling hard with the center stand. Guy walks up and says "Here, let me show you."

Boink! Right up on the stand with the greatest of ease.

There I was, all leather and chains and attitude, horribly embarrassed.

"Dude," I said, "this is embarrassing."

"Don't worry," he replied, "my sister showed me."

I always put the bike on center stand before getting off of it. As a matter of fact, I rarely ever use the side stand.

I reach the left grab bar under the seat, push up with my legs, with the left leg on the center stand peg, pull the right handle bar backward with me, and walk the bike back. Of course, you have to get the hind end off the seat, so you're not pulling your own weight up, too.

Then again, I'm 6'2"... helps to have a tad longer legs.

I had issues when I first starting riding too. one thing to make darn sure of is that both of the feet of the center stand are on the ground...it's interesting to see it go up on just one leg

Yep, I had the same problem for the first few attempts. I ended up having a buddy of mine over one night for a pop or two, and he said "you should keep your bike up on the center stand." At which point I said yah, go ahead if ya want...Of course he caught me looking at how he did it, and said ya can't do it can you. LOL. So after he showed me and I had a few more tries, up it came. You'll get it, and then you'll show someone else how.
