starting a new thread for this 900. This time I'll keep all my questions in one thread.

I took the swing arm off to inspect the universal. I'm assembling it and noticed strange things...

    a. There's weld spatter on the swing arm like it's been repaired... I would not expect Yamaha to send parts out with weld spatter on them. On a side note, I wouldn't be surprised if this swing arm has been repaired.. when I got the bike the foot pegs were both bent down like someone had been jumping the bike or something crazy like that. There's a picture to show the weld spatter. There's spatter in multiple places but I just wanted to show an example

    b. While I was about to put the axle back in I noticed the strange angle to the inner side of the axle locating bore

Any thoughts on these two issues?

The weld looks fine, but you’re right, someone has been at the inside face of that mating face - it should be flat to the hub. You need to get it built up or replaced...

Weird thing is… after I posted this I looked at ones for sale on eBay and they have angles there too

Won't matter, the shoulder (larger diameter part) of the axle protrudes through the swing arm and sits against the washer and collar. When you tighten the axle nut it "clamps" the axle assembly together, then you tighten the pinch bolt on the swing arm to hold the axle assembly in place. This is why you do the nut first.

what's the total resistance i want from spark plug electrode to the other electrode? just want to make sure i have it right. secondary coil is 12K, caps are 5K, plugs are 0K... so a total of 22K?

checked mine and somehow there were 10K caps on 2 & 3.

My XJ700 air had different resistance between the 2 & 3 caps and the 1 & 4 caps. I used resistor plugs with the 5K caps and non resistor with the 10K caps.

i once tried the Alum trick, on a steel bolt, broken on the tripple tree top clamp, IT DID'NT WORK.
no effect on the bolt what so ever, after several days. ended up drilling and retapping the thing
