My dad just gave me his 1982 JDM XJ650 SECA. He bought it in the phillipines while based there serving in the air force. I'm going to restore the bike and keep it. For my first mod I'm going with a Mac Performance 4-to-1 Exhaust System. I was really wondering has anyone tried the Stage 3 Dyno Jet kit paired obviously with the indivdual air filters and a good professional carb tune? I want to know if it's worth it because I also have a 4.6L tbird project going at the same time and want the most bang for my buck. If it does relive the low/mid end horsepower and torgue shortage then its worth the money imho. I've read only one review on it and they said it was helped alot to even out the powerband. The reviewer said that bike at 3000rpm /w Stage3 Jets/Filters pulled more like a stock 650seca @ 6000rpm, I'm just looking for more input. Thanks.

Thanks for responding with some input. I'm looking forward to getting a large box at my front door now. I've came to the decision that I'm going to buy the carb jet kit and the individual filters and get the bike professionally tuned and cleaned out. I'm going to turn the bike into a oldschool streetfighter, first i'm starting with the mods, then the asthetics. Extra glossy black paint, polish up the showing metal parts, and paint the wheels black with polished lips.

I had a Mac pipe on my bike when i got it. Sounded good but power was not as good as stock IMHO. The best pipe i have seen is the Kerker, but they are few and far between. As for a pipe you can get now, Jardine canister is good, the jardine megaphone system isn't as loud and should perform similarly. As far as carb mods, i did the Dynojet Stage 1 kit with the K&N drop in filter. I initially had rich running, but removed the restrictor in the airbox and now it pulls hard all the way through the redline. I tried the pods and jetting but couldn't get good steady drivability at part throttle. Top end was outstanding though. Not sure if Keihen CR carbs would work, but if you have the cash, try it. Our Seca's were the wuickest and fastest of the early 80's 650 class, along with the Maxim. Back in the day, one of the mags did a hopup using Yoshimura pistons, cams and exhaust, along with carb mods to make an 11 second bike. Now all that stuff is NLA, but megacycle still has cams and with a decent exhaust and proper tuning, low 12's should be no problem. cruzerjd

OK, realize the coffee hadn't sunk in yet. In '83 the Honda Nighthawk 650 was released that was faster than the Seca or Maxim. Sorry for the misinformation, cruzerjd

In this era of High-tech bikes that only require Code Reading and Plug-'n-Play replacement tuning ... you very well might find it difficult to have a shop accept your bike for the work you have planned for it.

It's a phenomonon happening with increased regularity.

Good luck and keep us well informed of your progress.

Sure....but that was 83. My XJ is an 82 so in its day it was fastest!
See...its all a matter or perspective!
