Hey ya’ll this is my first time posting also my FIRST bike. I bought the thing for only $175 and it isnt completely scrap!!! I tried with the battery at first, top cluster lights would turn on not really anything else because last owner mangled the lights. After fiddling with some things i got the start button to crank the engine when I would push it. This no longer happens, since then i had changed the tinfoil main fuse that was in it. I believe I might have knocked the contact for the fuse a little bit lose i read that can really mess things up. The agc 30a fuse i have too is also a bit too long but still contact pretty well but with the new fuse no power comes, tried the old fuse, no longer any power anywhere. I havent gotten the cluster to turn back or the buttons to work on either handle. Before the horn was at least working. The last owner took out the ignition switch so theres just the brown and red jump wire hanging out in the front. Using a multimeter with the battery connected these two wired (red and brown)read 12.4 volts roughly which means there power going through, but when i connect them, no cluster no starter button no horn nothing. Kinda starting to get pretty lost besides the fuse box and that contact that holds in the main fuse being a but lose. (Most connectors that ive seen are all pretty clean and connected sorry for dumping so much info as well) if anyone has any ideas would help sm. Honestly wondering if others agree that the main fuse has to be the causes of these symptoms. I also want to test it with the multimeter but aren't sure how to.

Welcome to the xj world , sounds like the PO wiring expert has butchered things . You should get a haynes manual , the wiring diagram are very helpful . Many times if bike won't crank it is the start solenoid, they are cheap to purchase. I bought a Seca 750 at a swap meet for 100$ as a frame and engine , I had so many spare parts it was easy to rebuild , I sold it on . Recently bought another for 100$ waiting on warmer weather to dive in . I have another Seca that is my main ride so kinda addicting. The pictures the red bike was the one I sold , the yellow bike is my main ride ,and the other is my latest purchase. Cheers
