I'm in the process of rebuilding the entire rack. All the seals and bits are in poor shape. Carb #1, the I opened it and discovered this janky fixed float post. Interesting fix and it has a little movement (0.5-1.0mm) The big question is, would it be a thing to use an aluminweld(sp) stick to flow a bit into the crack to lock it down? Most of the internals are okay on the rest of the carbs, just really needs a deep cleaning and new seals, heads up Len, an order request is heading your way in a month when I reassemble the rack.

I have seen a fix for this problem and I believe it was on the CBX sites. May want to google.

That is a safety wire repair , you would be better off finding another carb body , look an eBay or on the for sale on this site.

I've been running on repaired posts for a couple of years now. I used a JB Weld product someone on here suggested, along with drilling into the post both ways with a little bit of stiff wire in line with the post. I'd love to hear of something I could do that is more permanent, but it has lasted well. I'll be pulling the rack soon to replace piston rings and cylinder base gasket so will be taking them to church and now I need to decide. I'll have a look at the repair and report back, but probably not in a timely manner for you.

This bike was given to me and I've taken off everything off the frame so far, about to tear down and examine the engine. The 2-3-4 carbs were in fairly decent shape, number 1 had some white blight, but everything else externally is grimy and returning it closer to original with a few mods and a new paint job

I JB welded a bent/cracked post on mine this year. It was bent and had a crack so I went a head and snapped it and put 2 brass splints on it. I used a Q tip to keep the post aligned putting the Qtip shaft in where the pin goes to pivot the float. Q tip shaft is slightly large enough to hold things snug while the JB weld sets hard, then finished rebuilding the next day. I did not trust myself to drill holes and align pins (which would be stronger) and keep it straight so I used splints on each side.

Those carb look as dirty as the ones on the 82 XJ550 Im working on. An ultrasonic cleaner was one of the best investment I have made. I clean just about everything in it
