So I put the bike all back together. Got new gas in the tank. Plugs are sparking. New Charged up battery.

I tryed starting it today and no luck. Even took it out on the dry road and tryed to jump start it by running the thing down the street. It never turned over just... well i can't even make the sound cause i'm typing.

Anyway... I let it sit there for a while and went back out to the shop. Funny thing is i put my little girl on the bike and tryed to start it. Viola!!! it started but died with in a second. Wouldn't start after it died.

    I think she was lucky.

Let the bike sit for a half hour, went out and tryed to start it again. Same thing... started but died right away.

What might cause this. Fuel is good and i can see it moving past the filter.

Could it be flooding? I think that is what to suspect when it will fire up again after sitting for a while. What carb work did you do? Did you check float levels?

this happened with my bike.. only i hadn't ever started it, dont' know if the PO ever got it started either.

I trained the carb bowls, it had yucky gas in there, then flowed to clean gas.

i kept the bowls open, and started just to verify gas flowing.

after that, shut the bowls, choke 100%, i started it while giving some throttle, it'd start, die, start, die, start vroom, and has since started without problems since.

i believe what i did was remove the fuel from the carbs, which was it starting and dieing, then when the carbs were primed with good gas, it fired right up

Thanks... i'll try that see what happens. I hope its not bad gas... the bike hasnt had a gas tank on it since early last year.

The guy i bought the bike from said that he had just done the carbs... now i didn't get an answer what that ment. I don't know if he did them or had some one do them for him.

" drained the carb bowls, it had yucky gas in there, then flowed to clean gas.

How do I do this? Drain the carb bowls?

On the bottom of each bowl is an outlet and a screw. Put some tubing on the outlet and direct that into a suitable container. Then back off the screw. Fuel should start flowing.

On my bike the internal end of those screw valves were quite rusted up. So everytime I drained I would get some rust bits. I replaced the screws with new ones and the problem was gone. If you do the same, don't buy them from a Yamaha dealer like I did. I paid $10 ea. for the same low quality screws. Instead, buy a set of stainless steel ones from Chacal on this site - for half the price!.
