Oil filter cover XJ900 - Senior moment!

Despite having done many oil changes, I’ve forgotten which way is up! The cover has two ‘tabs’ one at 12 o clock and the other at 2 o clock. However, to locate the 2 o clock one in its recess this means the other tab is at 6 o clock and the torque setting writing on the cover is upside down! Can somebody put me straight please?

Thanks for that but doesn’t the pointy tab have to engage in the recess - thereby making you install it upside down? I’m obviously missing the point!?

Thanks for that. In that picture the cover is “upside down”. That is, the torque settings description is oriented upside down…I can’t quite work out the orientation to the bike in your earlier photos. Be good if someone could just go out to their bike and take a photo..cheers

 

My machine is not assembled unfortunately.

 

This might help @BaldWonder fitted a spin on oil filter but you can see the position of the factory filter unit on the crankcase. They all fit the same way with the projection on the filter unit at 12 o'clock.
