Hey, I got a 1982 XJ750 Seca, I changed brake light, headlight, speedo, & turn signals to led.

I have everything working except for the signals which are just on and don't blink, I tried resistor's and a led relay but nothing happened. I need help in getting them flashing again.

Is it possible to make the relay work with lower current? I was looking on a post on xjbikes but it seemed to complicated on DIY'ing so is anything available online to help? (I can try DIY if it's straight forward)

the led,s wont draw enough current to operate the original flasher relay.
led's in parallel with resistors (of the correct resistance) will work the original relay
an electronic flasher relay should work the led turn signals, though you would loose any self cancelling

I'm not planning on using resistor's, I did use them but it ended up using a ton of power which I didn't plan on. (Weren't flashing)

Looked at that post but it seems pretty complicated.

All you need to do is swap your stock flasher unit with a new one that suits LED's. These are not expensive and are pretty common...

I did do that but it seemed not to work, the post k-moe linked said that just changing the relay would not work because of the self cancelling unit.

You need to use a 2 terminal LED relay, or use the 3 terminal and modify how the harness connects

I think Len carries all the options

The xj 750 takes a 3 terminal so I should go with 3 terminal, I'm not sure what you mean by modify how the harness connects.

I'm just looking to get the signal lights blinking with led lights, I don't really care about the auto cancel feature.

Led relays should do the trick no? If so maybe I did something wrong.

The third terminal of a stock relay is proprietary, and only allows the self-canceling feature to work. If you don’t care about that feature then use the 2 post relay mentioned on the first page of the previously linked thread. If you do then either source a OEM relay from @chacal or EBay, or use the two-relay mod on the second page of the previously mentioned thread.

Ended up ordering a 2 pin relay and that worked. I guess getting the 3 pin was causing the problems.

Are you just living with the blinking warning lights?

Indeed it was. There are no 3-terminal flasher relays that will work on the XJ750. Yamaha's relay was proprietary and the third terminal is what allows the self-canceling to function.
