Today, it was far too nice of a day in the PNW to not do something outside. But my bike and my car were both filthy, so instead of taking off on a ride, I set about washing and waxing. (The car only got washed; I wouldn't waste my wax on that old POS. )
Anyway, as I was working on my Maxim, I remembered how many of you wanted more info on my comfy cruiser seat, which is obviously not stock.

So I removed the seat, and revealed this telling bit of evidence as to its maker.

I may or may not get around to Googling this tonight, but feel free to look on your own if you want. I am curious as to whether or not this company is still in business.
And here's another shot of the bike, since I went to the trouble to shine it up.

Hope this helps you learn something about my mystery seat.

Thanks Dan. That's good to know, in case my seat ever gets worn or damaged.

There's actually a bit of science built into that seat of yours. If you get bored, look up the patent at the US Patent Office. It's an interesting read.

Really appreciate the effort Jeff. The price of a Mayer seat is worth more than what I paid for the bike! Hopefully patience will reward me and I'll find one under the deck or a flea market in my travels. Again, thanks for the work posting the details!

    Hey Jeff,

Could you take a pic for me? I need a closeup shot looking up at the top crossbarof the fairing mount, the one right against the frame where it crosses at the wire harnesses. I'm having trouble getting that small triangle piece to fit properly, and the instructions are a little vague. I found a way to get it in, but it sure looks funny. If you could show me a pic or two I could see how it really should be.

    thanks,
    dave

Dave, I'll snap some closeups next time I get her out in the daylight with my camera. Looking at your gallery, I'm not sure, but it looks like you might have to lose the big crash bar in order to get the fairing mount on.

I'm not going to lose the crashbar. I know they say it won't fit, and the measurements say it won't fit. BUT..........I WANT it on, and other measurements indicate that I'll be able to make some custom brackets and I'll be able to get it work. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one. Where there's a will............. If you aren't able to get the pics, that's ok. I decided that I may as well figure out some other way to make it work. So, it was nothing that an anglegrinder and a drill couldn't fix. I made some measurements, drilled a couple new oversize holes in the top brace, then removed the horn bracket and drilled out the two welded nuts. A couple longer bolts with lockwashers and nuts now hold the top mount and the horn mount in a nice "frame sandwich". The top holes are still the same for the fairing crosspiece. I'm enlarging them slightly to allow the bracket to shift front a bit and eliminate valvecover contact. I need to make a couple bushings to fill the gap at the top crosspiece, but it is nice and secure now. After that's all back on, the crashbar should ride right in front of the bottom of the fairing bracket. A couple custom blocks should take care of that along with a couple ring-clamps around the top by each down tub. I'll paint them black and they'll disappear.

Before putting all that together, I'm gonna redo the valve cover gasket (again). grrrr.

    thanks,

    dave
