I am contemplating buying a pair of electrically heated pants. I need info on the rating of the alternator anyone?
    Thanks,
    George

    14 volts - 19 amps (max @ 5000rpm). 266 watts total.

Due to the low power alternator we have, you need to be very careful about adding high-draw accessories like this -- make sure you know how much wattage you're using.

Anyway we can bump up the power available on these bikes?

    Replacing the stator or rotor?

I think the XJCD has an article on that; supposedly one can get another couple of amps out of the thing.

23 amps it is. And yes, it is a stator replacement (G32 model). I have no idea if this address is still good or not, but here it is.

That's for a rewind - don't know if that guy's still in business or not, but there's other companies that do stator replacement/rewinds.

I've been told that it's possible to use one of the 26 amp models from the X's or 1100's with some modifications, but I've not seen that done yet, nor do I know if it's really do-able....

Your stock alternator generates 1 amp more than your bike consumes.
    Amps times Volts = watts
1 amp times 12 volts = 12 watts to spare.

Better go with the aftermarket replacement stator.

    Good luck!

That can't be right. I've added 2 20 watt marker lights and an extra tail light to mine. Must be at least 50 watts (another 4 amps) with no problems.

    headlight (high) 65W
    tail light 4W
    brake light 27W
    front turn 28W
    rear turn 28W
    instr. 4W (x6) 24W
    TOTAL: 148W

These numbers are rough, but it looks like with all the lighting on, you're only using about 150 Watts. I'm not sure what the ignition circuit pulls, but I don't imagine it's more than a couple of amps.

I have heated grips and a radio (500w amp) on my bike and the stator seem to be able to keep up so far. I just installed a volt meter to keep track of the battery situation while I ride, so I know when to shut things off. Mostly I use the heated grips only when I'm out on the open road and not in town at lower rpms. The radio amp doesn't seem to really to drain the battery as I figured it would. I have LED lights in the instruments and tail light now, so that helps save some energy. The signal lights are only temporary, so that's not an issue.
I guess you can add accessories if you are able to monitor the battery level and keep it fully charged. Also, with adding accessories, your acid level will drop some (battery runs warm) so you will need to add distilled water once in awhile. PD
