    1981 Xj650 (H) Maxim - US import
I bought this Xj650 as a non running winter project, no reliable history from the seller, so I have been through the whole bike.
    Briefly, (front to back):
New front brake pads, seals changed in master cylinder, piston cleaned, fluid changed.
    Wheel bearings checked and regreased.
Fork seals replaced, 15w oil. Head bearings regressed.
Cables lubricated, choke and speedo cable replaced.
Engine seized (rust in no1 cylinder as plug left out) rebored to 0.5mm oversize, new pistons, rings, gudgeon pins etc, rebuilt with new gaskets, valve seals replaced and valves reshimmed. New spark plugs.
Oil and filter changed twice to flush engine.
Starter motor rebuilt with new brushes and seals.
Carbs stripped and cleaned, new jets (standard size), E10 compatible gaskets seals, enrichment circuits cleared ( a bit of a nightmare on these bikes). Float heights set. Carbs synchronised. It came with pod air filters which are serviceable so I have cleaned them.
Fuel fuel tap and vacuum hoses replaced with additional fuel filter.
    New battery.
    Rear swing arm bushes replaced.
Rear brake stripped and cleaned, shoes are like new.
Rear wheel bearings regreased, final drive oil replaced.
The bike starts first press of the button, and runs really well, plenty of power, and handles better than an 80s custom should, really good fun to ride.
Tax and MOT exempt due to its age, and eligible for classic insurance.
Please bear in mind this is a 42 year old bike, mechanically very good, and cosmetically not bad, but certainly not spotless, the chrome is good for its age, but there are blemishes, especially the exhausts.
As you can see it has a custom paint job, there is a small dent on the tank, and some paint cracking near the filler, but I like the paint too much to disturb it.
The exhausts sound great, if you don't like your neighbours start it at 6am, if you like them leave it until later!
    BAD BITS
As above, if you're looking for a pristine bike this isn't for you, it looks good, but it isn't blemish free.
The front brake works as it should, but 1980s single piston single disc brakes were always rubbish, good for honing anticipation whilst riding!
I have no way of verifying the mileage, the previous owner didn't seem to believe in MOTs, currently showing 13700 miles, but I am riding it, so this will change.
I am selling it, despite putting a lot of time, effort and money into it as it was a winter project, and I have 2 other bikes, and I have only ever mastered riding one at a time!
It has 2 sets of keys, and V5.
I believe this to be a fair and accurate summary of this rare bike.
I would encourage viewing to, happy to answer questions.
    located in Sandbach, Cheshire.
Looking for £1750, or reasonable offers.

I wo received_2309256159233285.jpeg I wwouldn't want to touch that paint either. It's something unique on your bike, as is the mural on my XJ750 Maxim. I'm going to be vinyl wrapping my tank to preserve the mural, which is only 3 years younger than my bike, lol.
