How similar is the from of the Yamaha XS1100 engine/frame area to 82 Maxim 750?

I ask because I'm currently looking around for lowers for a fairing.

Basically is the engine about the same width (left to right) and is the valve cover and header pipes in the same general spot?

The XS1100 head is a couple of inches wider that the XJ750. So everything is a little different. I could give you exact differences when I get home from work.

So from a LOWERS point of view that would be a good thing. If I got compatable xs1100 lowers they should easily NOT hit the 750 engine :)

Just asking, I have no basis to know one way or the other...

Since the 1100 is wider and taller, aren't the frames different enough that there might be mounting-point issues? I know for instance if you try to use 650/750 case guards on a 550 they will go on but end up at the wrong angles and look goofy.

The 1100 frame is wider in the front to except the bigger engine. The Vetter fairing that Metal Bob has will fit almost any of these bikes (Universal fit with different brackets and such). The lower fairings he has found are plastic and have cut outs larger to go around a larger engine. They should fit his bike but have more clearance than the 750 ones he is really looking for. Most people would never notice.

    BINGO.

Well almost. I don't actually have XS1100 lowers yet, but I was looking at some on eBay.

The ones I do have are less than an inch clearance from the valve cover and 1 & 4 Header pipe (where they are closest to the frame and front of engine). I will probably trim/shape those unless I find some XS1100 cheap enough.

I mean with the appropriate funds and ability You could get a Small Block Chevy in there if that's what You really wanted to do. But I seriously doubt the 1100 is going to just line right up with the 750 Mounts.. However, I have been led to believe that a 900 will. Which in My opinion would probably be the better Choice anyway..
