Request some advice. I can't find a cdi box with the correct connector pins. My bike is a 5N8-000101 model. Lots of CDIs on ebay but none with the 4 pins from the engine in the correct sequence. Can I use any 650 cdi and hard wire pins from the pickup coil and side stand relay? Thanks.

If it’s a 650J with the electric tach, then the part number you are looking for is 5G2-82305.

They share a part with several 750s.

    “Red label”

You might have to be patient to find one on eBay that looks decent and is not highway robbery.

Thankyou Dan. Yes the bike does have an electric tach. I did see one 5G2-82305-10 on ebay but it looked like the engine 4 pin connector was not the same pattern hence my question and wondered if there was a workaround. Thanks again. Russ

For the record, it's a TCI (Transistor Controlled Ignition) not a CDI (Capacitive DischargeIgnition). Two completely different methods of ignition control.

That should be the correct TCI for a 650J. Assuming the wiring is stock.

This is my 650J for reference:

Thanks guys. You all are correct. I was looking at the engine pin out incorrectly. That red label unit is correct for this bike. First time working on a Yamy 4, I am a Honda 4 guy. Will keep looking for a reasonable priced unit, maybe I can get this thing running. Thanks for this forum. I am active on the Honda CB1100f forum. Don't know what I would do without it.

You should be able to get it running - no problem.

Whatever you do, don't throw away the old TCI box.

Do you have the original? Theyre notorious for bad/cold solder joints. Also, I dont remember if there's any electrolytic capacitors in it, but if there are, electrolytic capacitors dry up with age and may need replacing. Really wish there was a proper schematic/circuit description for these units, particularly the section that applies the ignition curve.
