Hello everyone, I recently ordered a new tire and by mistake I got one that was 110/90/19 but the label on the bike calls for one that is 100/90/19. I thought that it would be okay and really seemed fine after I put it back on, but after reaching highway speeds the front fender rubbed on the tire and gouged it pretty good.

I was wondering if reducing the tire size to what the factory calls for would eliminate the issue? I assume it would but I just don't want to order the wrong tire, and would really like to avoid damaging another tire.

Here is the link to the tire I am looking at.

Can anyone please advise me if this tire would work, or suggest one that will. As of now I don't really see anyway to bring the fender up and it's a really snug fit, but nothing is bent or damaged. At the moment I just took the fender off.

    Thank you in advance!

    I have 100/90 19 on mine (XJ750 Maxim)

If you're willing to modify your front fender, maybe you can "slot" the mounting holes so you can raise it a bit further above this tire?

I have the front fender off the bike at the moment, its all shaped specifically to fit around the forks, I was going to raise it with some washers but it's just not possible because there is not enough space between the mounting bracket and the side of the fork.

I think I might buy a 2nd fender from ebay and modify the hanging bracket by shaving off the bottom lip where it cannot get past the fork. Then I can raise the bracket with some spacers.

Or I am going to buy the right size tire as I am not sure how safe the current tire is after being chewed up a little.

100/90-19 on both my XJ700 and XJ700X, perfect.

    Which tire are you running?

Do you think this tire (Click Here) would be sufficient? It is the correct size and it can go above 130mph, which I would not be doing anyway.

I would imagine they would be good, personal preference as to the manufacturer. I just use the cheap Shinko 777 tires.

I have that exact tire on the front of my 83, soon to be followed by the matching rear so I can get rid of the crappy Spitfire II thats came on the bike, which I hate with a passion. Hated the Spitfire II that was on the back of my old naked 85 Venture as well.

I firmly believe that keeping everything stock is the best option. I would go back to the correct tire size.

Yeah, I ended up purchasing the Dunlop 100/90/19 and it works like a charm.

On top of that, your speedometer is closer to correct with the proper tire.

With the 100, I find my speedometer reads abt 5km/h fast. Strange, as the outside diameter of the front tire is a bit larger than OEM now and should read slower, lol. 83 XJ750 Maxim.
