    Hi guys,

I just recently got this xj750a to use as my commuter to my welding course. Sadly it stopped turning on after riding it for a week. When I turn the key to the on position, the dashboard doesn’t come to life, the lights won’t turn on.
Battery is new and has 12.7 volts,
When I turn the key to lock the steering and activate the park lights, they turn on.
I tried using the spare key with a nicer cut, same problem. fuses are still intact, couldn’t hurt to double check. The naughty thing is, I left her outside in the rain for a few days.
So, I think it’s the ignition barrel, maybe it needs a clean. I’m seeking advice on the easiest way to get at the thing. Since this is a lovely old bike, I don’t want to hurt her much.

I managed to get the barrel out, the contacts were corroded and one of the cables had broken off. Looks like somebody’s been in here before. I’ll try get a friend to solder it back together. Perhaps I can source a replacement if it fails

You should spray down with contact cleaner , and see if it works . If all else fails buy a new ignition switch , not terribly expensive but note the key will be different the fuel cap and helmet/seat lock.

Another item in your photo you have a large machine screw that point needs to be shaved down as this could cut into wires.
