going larger than 130/90 can be done not by much or you will have to do things to keep it from rubbing

This Australian guy is converting his 650 Seca to 17's. Same process as your Maxim.

I have a complete rear wheel conversion for my 1982 XJ750 Maxim which give me matching front and rear wheels, 17" (wider than the stock 3.00") plus a modern disc brake set-up. It's also accurately centered and true.

Machining yes of course, no pictures, it's done but have to pick a color for the powder coating.

Still waiting for @50gary to tell us what wheel he made fit, until then the only 17" mag wheel I'm aware of that's close is the XJ900 Diversion.
Unfortunately for us in N.America these bikes never made it here.
Shipping a rear wheel from UK or EU will be expensive.

However, THE best option for a Cafe, cost be damned, is to use hubs from an 84 Virago 750 and lace them to 17" rims with custom ordered spokes.

you are right i have been wanting a set of the virago wheels but you cant find them often and they are high priced. and then you still need to put money into them not sure what im going to do yet. i do want to spend the money to do it right, but i also dont want to go overboard. just trying to get the right look for me

I just now got my power coat delivered by the good ole UPS. I will coat them asap and try to post a picture. They are not wire spoke wheels, don't care for them. mag wheels are stronger and run true.
I work two jobs and time is tight for me so posting and building is not easy.

Don't think there's a 17", but I have an 84 Venture Royal with an 18" that would be Compatible. It is also a Disc with a Twin Piston Caliper. One Downside though is it's a Heavier Wheel which can have a noticeable effect on Performance. And I was able to make Spacer's and fit a 140 on My XJ, but it offset the Wheel so it was no longer Center. I couldn't notice it while Riding but just knowing it wasn't Right Bothered Me lol so I went back to a 130.
