I've been riding at night a bit with my standard ol' 7" incandescent bulb and visibility is not great at all. Does anyone have any recommendations for upgraded bulbs that they've tried? I'm looking at halogen (both sealed bulb and housings with removable bulbs) and LED options. The prices on these range from $25 to $100 and I'm just not sure how much I need to spend to get a good result. I also want to make sure that fitment will be good and that I don't need to be concerned about electrical issues... Any help is appreciate!

If considering an LED, make sure you get one with small elements. The LED elements work best when they're as close to the position of the original filaments as possible.

The other consideration is how much space is behind the headlamp bowl - some LEDs need a bit of space with good airflow.
When it comes to aligning the beam, it is best to get an LED that has an adjustable base, whereby you can rotate the body of the LED in the base and make the beam cut-off line up properly. Many of them don't have this feature. Without being able to do that, you will probably dazzle oncoming drivers, and just piss them off.
Another factor is simply how good your original reflector is - some of them weren't all that great and an LED will not sit happily in them, leading to the above dazzle problem, no matter what you do.
I had to mix and match and adjust several LEDs and lamp assemblies until I got good results. It was worth it, though.

This was a direct fit (well, mostly...had to be finicky in the squence of tightening down the factory retainer screws as it was off a smidgen) I havent had any issues with heat, and there was still room for the existing wiring in the headlight shell.

I'm still deciding how to implement the light ring, which is currently disconnected.

It was gifted to me from a friend, but I've seen this one priced at about $40ish CAD.

I am all for safety and getting more light on the road for night driving. I think you did a good job on that looks clean.
