    Hi.
I'm looking for a way to "easy" 17 inch conversion for rear rim. I need to put winter tire to my xj600 and all options seems to support only 17 inch. Now I'm using k60 winter silica but they are not good enough for my climate.

I did a 17" x 3.5" conversion and it was not easy. It involves two wheels, I used early R1 front wheel for the spokes and rim and rear disc brake hub from an XJ900 i think..machine work, (lathe) and TIG welding'
There are pictures on this site, but it's not an easy project. The finished product is much to my liking and I would do it again, no regrets.

the XJ600 is chain drive so a much easier task.
However, the OEM 600 rim is very skinny and most 17" will be wider, offsetting the chain alignment, and the disk brake as well, even if it fits in the swingarm.
I didn't know winter rubber compounds for motorcycles existed?
In Canada it would be a knobbie with sheet metal screws LOL.

I will try gs500 wheel and we will see. It's 3.5 inch. Swingarm is not much wider than on xj600. If it will somehow fit I will just have to find a way to machine offset front sprocket

It's even narrower than stock xj600 swingarm. Entire swingarm is 3mm wider on mount point to frame so maybe entire swingarm swap. We will see

Having lived the majority of my adult life in northern Michigan I'd tend to agree with you on not knowing about winter tires and putting screws into the knobs. It seems that over in Europe they see things a bit different when it comes to riding in the winter!

Right now I'm in central Florida and it's pretty rare to see anyone else on the road when the temp goes below about 70° except those of us from out of state. Guess it's a matter of perspective.

It's more about my village where they don't remove snow from roads and it packs and turns into ice cape. Riding on asphalt is fine even on my fzs600 with road 6s but xj just has too narrow wheel to not get slipped on ice from time to time

i converted the rear of my xj600 to a 16" wheel and tyre from a yx600 radian, wheel fits same sprocket carrier and only requires the r/h side calliper mount to be milled down to fit, cant remember by how much , but its easilly measurable , but you have to convert to rear drum brake from Radian
