    Hey guys and gals, I'm looking to see what type of wrenches I need to buy for my 85 xj700 so I can start working on her and get her purring. Is it metic or aes?

    Metric, all the way. And a nice set of JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) "phillips" screwdrivers.

    You can dismantle 99% of a Japanese motorcycle with an 8, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 22, 24, 27 mm wrench, 5 & 6 Allan keys.
    And the JIS screwdriver mentioned.

    The temptation to use standard American screwdrivers. Don't do it. Buy a good set of JIS screwdrivers. I bought a complete set of Vessell screwdrivers and keep the separate from my other screwdrivers. You only have to damage one screw to know that JIS screwdrivers are a must if you are going to do a lot of work on your bike, or even your Japanese car.

    you'll want to pick up a couple of extra 10 mm wrenches and sockets

    A good metric Cresent wrench is must have in the left hand model.
