I have just finished rebuilding this bike and it now runs like a dream. I enjoy working on the bikes almost more then riding them and was looking to sell mine and start looking for the next project. How much could I reasonably sell this bike for? It has all the plastics and runs amazing nice red color.

Honestly that's not easily answered. My 81 XJ750 in the avatar has over 36K average care miles on it and I paid just over $1150 in non-running condition. So far I've invested just over $275 to get it on the road again and reliable. My paint is faded and the plastics are missing the retainer lugs but overall it still looks good and shows reasonably well, what it's worth is subjective but honestly I'd say $2500-$4000-ish would be a good starting point if you can find the right buyer.
I've been trolling Craigslist looking for vintage-80's bikes and there's no shortage of them going for around $1800 to $4500 for the high end survivors like the CB750's, the SECA was not as popular and I have yet to find another, no shortage of Maxim's, Harley's or mid-level Honda bikes now that spring is around a corner... which one I don't know as I picked up 13" of snow so far.
How far is the rebuild and how well does it show? Clean black on the rims and a deep glossy shine on the tank makes for a 20-20 bike... 20 feet away moving at 20 MPH it looks really good but we both know the devil is in the details like clean between the fins and crisp shifts. Super clean might get $5000+ in cali or $2000 in kansas. It all comes down to the buyer and how good of a salesman you really are. I like the SECA and would be willing to part with $2500-$3000 for a clean example.

I'm done with the rebuild. I've cleaned out the carbs, got the valve clearances correct, shifts like a dream, and now starts and idles super easily. I've just bought some stuff to start cleaning out the fins and will start on the wheels here pretty soon as well. It is in as good condition as any bike I have seen from the 80's. And being the Seca that bike is dang quick.

No doubts, I was surprised at just how snappy the SECA was compared to my old 1980 Honda CBX. The six had it's own feel with a broader powerband but it didn't have the rush like the SECA. On the 1/4 mile the SECA would pass the CBX midway down the track despite the 125CC advantage. Now I see the CBX has become quite the collector bike with one local example commanding $13,000. For that money I could have the SECA, a Maxim and plenty left over for cruising without the worry.
The reason I don't have the CBX anymore is it was totalled the summer of 92 drag racing one of those ninja bikes. Sunday afternoon on a private industrial road we got about half way before a semi pulled out in front. We layed our bikes down and took the slide, my buddy hit the tire of the semi and was paralyzed, he died seven years later from a medication OD caused by a faulty patch. After the crash I really didn't want to ride and hung up my helmet.

Condition is everything, not just all the functional stuff but how it looks. People will value it more on looks very often than function.
Around me a functioning XJ is $1500-$2000. But if it looks pretty, it will go for more. I feel the SECA looks better and you have these cafe racer builders that will value a Seca tank more than a Maxim tank.
If you want the most $ for your bike, you may be waiting a while, especially if you are >$2K

I put my 82XJ650 into fakebook for $1500 and my phone blew up that day and weekend with low ball offers and "when can I see it". I did have 2 people that were going to show up that week saying $1500 and others that were saying $1800 if you wait a week. you just can't believe everything people tell you. Put in your add NO negotiations over internet and stick to it. Don't agree to a lower price before they see it and you will get more serious buyers.
I ended up selling it for less to someone on a local non bike forum but am happy I made less $ cause I did not have to deal with fakebook people. He was not that far from me either.

    Good Luck.

    YMMV
