I would guess that some of those kits work. I only have first hand knowledge on the older Honda Gold Wing conversion. That take all four carbs out and puts a single carb in. That is a sweet and easy mod that I recommend if anyone finds a cheap older Gold Wing.

Looks to be sound, you would think they would have some testimonial stuff along with some vids of the engine running and working.

I agree with this and was thinking the same thing. My train of thought into something like this kit is that as the years go by and rubber boots get older, it would be nice, among other points, to not have to worry about sourcing old discontinued parts…

Save your money do a proper rebuild and synch your carbs without resorting to experimenting.

^^^^ this. Getting an old bike running right is a project and work.
If you want to throw $ at it, send it to oldshoolcarbs and have them rebuild. Much less.

Hm, I just checked them out and they seem like they have a nice thing going. I will keep them in mind. I spent around 6 hours (over a couple afternoons) cleaning my current set of HSC33, while on the rack but Im quite sure they won't be good to go until they are properly taken off the rack.. (in addition to new seals, pilots, etc..)

Rebuilding the carbs is not difficult, four containers , a JIS dcrew driver , 10mm wrench, 10mm 1/4inch socket and ratchet with a short extension , a straight blade screw driver . Option an impact driver to remove the large screws on the rails. Once carbs are split from the rails and the choke rod . I bought a gallon of Berrymans carb dip it has a small basket for the small parts . Soak one carb at a time before doing the remove all the rubber butterfly seals, idle mixture O ring . Soak about an hour, remove carb body clean in hot soapy water let carb air dry. Reassemble carb with new butterfly seals ( xj4ever has these ) once carbs are reassembled, do a bench synch take two paper clips straighten out place one under the number three carb butterfly plate. Place the other paper clip under number one carb butterfly plate, adjust the synch screw between number one and two carb bodies till there is a slight drag by pulling it out . Next go to carb two , and repeat, and carb four. Now you can go to carb three but this time adjust the idle knob till you get a slight drag pulling on the clip. This should get you close , I have both the four vacuum gauge synch tool as well as a Morgan four tune . You can build your own four vacuum gauges from Harbor Freight mount on a two by four and a bungy cord. This might seem difficult, but a few adult beverages and an afternoon can be done .

Thank you for the helpful advice. I will admit to having felt overwhelmed after carefully reading through the church of clean. I know one thing, that I want to do it right and the first time bc I don’t know how many more “yanks” my intake manifolds can take LOL. This is what started making the Retro kit appeal due to it eliminating the need for those hard to source (at least the XJ700 air cooled) intake manifolds…
