Would like to see if anyone out there has some unscathed front fork inner tubes for the xj900. Thanks.

I have a few front ends off 1984 XJ750RL's. I believe the fork dia's are the same.

I'd be interested but is the length the same too? I looked up both tubes and they have different part numbers. Is there a way to confirm that both inner tubes are exactly the same?

I could pull one apart and get some measurements. I can compare some dims to the forks on my 900 but only what's accessible with the forks on the bike.

Should be the same. The 750rl and the Seca 900 are basically the same bike with the engine size being the major difference

The Canadian XJ750RL (model 44X) does not use anti-dive forks (unlike the 900's) and thus the tubes are different from the XJ900RK and RL models..............the Candiaan XJ750RL uses the XJ900 N/FN fork tubes:

HCP9948 Aftermarket chrome INNER FORK TUBE, fits left or right side, for all XJ750RL, XJ900N, and XJ900FN models. Each:

    MODEL NAME: XJ750RL
    STREET NAME: 1984 XJ750 Seca
    MODEL ID CODE: 44X
    FRAME ID: 44X
    SERIAL NUMBER STARTS AT: 000101
NOTE: XJ750 engine in an XJ900 frame. Only 601 made for the Canadian market. Engine actually displaces 749cc (1cc larger than standard XJ750 models, which were only 748cc's) and uses a hotter exhaust cam, larger (+1,00mm) intake valves, different crankcase, cylinder jugs, and pistons/rings, the XJ900 type clutch assembly and middle gears set, as well as the strengthened 2nd gear set as used in the XJ650 Turbo, XJ750-X, and XJ900 models. Uses XJ900 forks, but no anti-dive. Similar but not quite identical to the 1984 Australia-only XJ750RL (45T model). It has been noted that all the Red/Silver XJ750RL models (Canada) seem to have black motors while the Blue/White models (Australia) have silver motors.

That is interesting. Apparently the 750RL has 56.5 mm stroke, compared to the 56.4 mm of the 748.

Doesn't make you wonder what the thought process and discussion was when that sort of tiny difference was made? Why that sort of tiny change and what it does to the production line and parts acquisition? Just plain why?

I think it was actually part of the engine development work for the upcoming (1985) XJ700 air-cooled models, produced to side-step the soon-to-be-introduced import restrictions on 700+ cc bikes (the "Harley Tariff") enacted for the 1985 model year. The XJ750RL (1984) engine shares the larger intake valve, larger HSC33 carbs, and hotter cams that all made it into the XJ700 air-cooled engines, so although a tiny change, it saved their bacon for the next 2 years.........in fact,, I think it would be better to look at the 750RL engine as an oddball, "throw-together" engine using the newly developed parts for the upcoming 700 engine.

So that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it........... :)

@chacal, that makes sense. I was thinking of the opportunity to get parts mixed both in assembly and the difficulty in keeping such slightly different parts from getting mixed together or interchanged. Having worked is several factories I can see where that would be easily possible. Thanks Len!

The “Harley Tariff” was enacted in April 1983 (Reagan) t0 1988.....
Which is why we only got the XJ900
RK for a short time in 1983.
