    Hi all

I’m in the process of doing a light restoration on my 1983 XJ900 Seca. The alloy fork sliders need rubbing back and either painting or lacquering. I’d like to re-paint the anti-dive gizmos mounted on the front of the sliders.

Ideally I need to take them off. I’ve never come across these before so not sure how they work. What I’d like to know is if I take them off do I need to drain the forks? Presumably the fork oil in the sliders and brake fluid in the anti-dive units are kept separate somehow?

I’d like to avoid removing the forks altogether if I can.

    Thanks.

    Shaun

I'm rebuilding mine as well. I just took them off and yes, you would need to drain the fork oil. The top portion of the anti-dives does house the brake fluid but I beleive there's a little piston inside there. If it moves then you may not have to remove the brake fluid. Mine seems stuck so I'm doing a full teardown. I'm still learning about these little things myself so take everything I say with grain of salt.
