Well, I've been away from the bike for a while, but i'm back at it, and tearing it down piece by piece.

First - brakes. I got my master cyllinder off the bike, and want to replace it with a nice handlebar mounted one. Who makes one that'll work with my dual front brakes?

second - Gas tank- My gas tank is really beaten up from the previous owner. Either I need to fix it (doubt that) or get a different one. Has anyone put a gas tank from an xs1100 on their bike? Just want to know how it looks/mounts. I can find those easier than I can ever find xj750 seca gas tanks, and I like the added fuel capacity.

I got everything I could off of the front to see how I much I could clean up the looks of the bike, and i'm amazed at all the crap that they put on these things! Guess that's just my opinion- i'm a minimalist when it comes to bikes.

    Here's the headlight i'm going to be putting on. http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_c ... 102&mmyId=

And i'm going to use the single digital gauge that everyone talks about. (the name escapes me right now.)

Once I figure out the gas tank situation, i'll worry about the seat and rear fender- I know i'm going to have to change them out if I use a different gas tank. They have to be changed anyways.

You should probably try and repair the tank. If you have a "Rent-All" Store near you; you can rent a Copper Rivet Welding Puller. The tool spot welds copper rivets on to the tank and has a tool you use for pulling out the dents.

Work from the outside edge of the dent towards the middle. Get the contour close enough to be filled with MarGlas and sand and shape the MarGlas.

Finish it off with regular Bondo.

You can buy that tool at Harbor Freight. I was just there two days ago, and i think it was only $129. I pointed it out to my friend, because I have a dent in my tank and I'm thinking of getting it to fix it.

    Jim,

What bike is that in your avatar?

Do you think one of those fenders would fit on my Maxim?

If you're talking about the brunette fender, I don't think they are available yet. They're still in prototype stage.

I'll have to check that out- could always use a new toy around here, even if it doesn't work. The reason I say that is because it's probably not going to happen. it's not just a dent... it looks like somebody took a hammer and took out their aggression on one spot of the tank. It's caved in where the dent is, and pushed out on the side... it's right by the body line- where the steel is the strongest.

I've got a few tricks up my sleeve for fixing the gas tank, I just want to know what gas tanks fit well, just in case it can't be fixed. And no- i don't care if I have to fab up a new mount to bolt the gas tank down...

By the way- let me know when that fender comes in redhead!

    There's a fender in my avatar? <G>
I'm not sure which model it is. I found it online and liked the looks. The bike's not bad either.

Let's try to contain ourselves and recognize that there are women members of this Forum and remarks like that are best left ...

    UN-typed!

I'm blowing the whistle and throwing a flag on that play.
    Let's not go there.

for the master cylinder, they sell some nice ones at dennis kirk. I plan on replacing my master cylinder on my bike as well. THe design is smilar to that of sport bike master cylinders. I'm not sure about the SECA, but on my maxim the master cylinder and the mirrior are mounted on the same unit, so replacing the master cyl means either not having the mirror or finding some way to mount a bar end mirror. Dennis kirk also sells handle bar mirrors too, but after looking at the space on my handle bar, i am not sure if theres room to mount it.

Anyways, i dont know if they will work or not, but you can give these a try. Look up Shindy or Magura at dennis kirk. They got a bunch of master cylinders.

Alright danno, i'm at 48044. If you could figure out the cost of shipping, I would appreciate it.

I've been looking through dennis kirk, pete. Thanks. I can't believe they have master cyllinders for 437.00! I didn't pay much more than that for my bike! It's going to take some thinking about making the setup work... but i'm always up for a challenge.

I bought a really nice two-disc master cylinder for my old Seca turbo from Parts N More for $76. Worked a treat and matched the bike perfectly. It smartened the braking up (along with braided lines) since the bore size was bigger, moving more volume with every bit of lever stroke.
